The San Juan Wilderness Leadership Expedition is a professionally guided, four-day backpacking experience designed to challenge, inspire, and develop young men during a critical stage of growth.
Set in the high alpine terrain of the San Juan Mountains, this program combines physical challenge, wilderness immersion, and intentional leadership development. Participants will step away from modern distractions and into an environment that demands resilience, teamwork, and personal responsibility.
This is not simply a backpacking trip—it is a structured leadership experience delivered through wilderness exposure.
Core Intentions
Leadership Development — Participants will learn to lead through service, humility, courage, and accountability.
Backcountry Knowledge — Participants will learn backcountry etiquette, safety, and responsibility.
Teamwork & Community — Emphasis on communication, trust, and shared responsibility in a backcountry setting.
Character Formation — Development of grit, confidence, discipline, and integrity through real challenge.
Servant Leadership — Daily discussions centered on encouraging others, taking initiative, and leading by example.
Trip Highlights
4-day / 3-night Backcountry Expedition in San Juan Mountains
Summit attempt of Redcloud Peak & Sunshine Peak (weather permitting & permit permitting)
Backcountry Camping & Wilderness Skill Development
Daily leadership discussions & reflection sessions accounted by journaling
Small-group mentorship with experienced guides
Duration: 4 Days
Cost: $1,800/person
Includes: professional guides, all backpacking gear (pack, tent, sleeping system, etc.), all meals and backcountry nutrition, transportation to and from Telluride to trailhead, leadership curriculum & facilitation, safety & emergency communication systems, all associated permits & fees.
